President of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum AJ Mohammad Ali and also the former attorney general, passed away at a hospital in Singapore on Thursday afternoon (Local time).
BNP's media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan has informed this news to media.
He said the senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali has been suffering from cancer. He was undergoing treatment at the Mount Elizabeth Hospitals Singapore. AJ Mohammad Ali died at around 2pm on Thursday (Local time) at the hospital.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zila and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have expressed profound their shock and sorrow at the death of AJ Mohammad Ali and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members of the deceased.
He said the time of namaz-e-janaza will be informed following the arrival of the body from Singapore.
Mohammad Ali served as the lawyer of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia for the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
He left behind a son, a daughter, his wife, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Mohammad Ali served as the 12th Attorney General of Bangladesh, from 2005 to 2007.
Meanwhile, his father MH Khandaker was the first Attorney General of Bangladesh.
Ali was enrolled to practice in the High Court in 1980 and in the Appellate Division in 1985.
He was appointed as Additional Attorney General on October 23, 2001 and the Attorney General on April 30, 2005. He resigned from the position on January 24, 2007.
Mohammad Ali also served as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Bangladesh Bar Council's Executive Committee Chairman.
