1 killed, 6 others including cops injured in Birol

A 70-year old campaigner was killed and six others including policemen were injured in  post polls violence in Birol Upazila  Parishad election on Sunday.

The incident took place outside the Singuil Hamid Hamida High School polling centre in  Azimpur Union at 7 pm on Sunday, after the election   result was announced.

The deceased Mohammad Ali (70), resident of Singuil Dangapara village was supporter of Chairman candidate Saidur Rahman.

According to neighbours, Muhammad Ali died after the police opened fire.

Presiding Officer Mahbubur Rahman said that after vote counting was over, the result paper was pasted on the polling centres wall. But someone went outside the centre and spread rumours that result paper was not handed over to the polling agents.

Mahbubur Rahman said, "On hearing the  rumours, supporters of Chairman Candidates Al Mamun threw brickbats and stone chips at the police in which some policemen were injured."
