Didarul Alam, the founder and CEO of Shooting Star Limited, is contesting for the directorship of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the top organization of the country's information technology sector.
He had led BASIS as a Director earlier. This time he is contesting for the post of director in general category from panel 'one team'. If elected, he wants to expand the scope of work for BASIS members. It also plans to take initiatives under the 'Go Global' program to increase the ICT sector's exports to international markets. He also pledged to continue concerted efforts to maintain tax exemptions for the ICT sector or, as an alternative, any other viable solution.
Didarul Alam is a young entrepreneur. He has more than 18 years of experience in the Information Technology sector. Earlier, he served as the Co-Chairman of the Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Division Standing Committee of BASIS. He worked behind the scenes to win the honor of becoming the first champion for Bangladesh for BASIS in the Space Apps Challenge organized by the US space research agency NASA, worked in telecom companies Warid, Banglalink, on the strategic planning of ACI Group's biggest project retail brand 'Shwapno' core team and played a major role in establishing the business.
The current President of BASIS, Russell T Ahmed, is leading the One Team with the slogan 'Team over Individual, BASIS over Team'. This team is giving priority to 'Every Member Matters'. And Didarul Alam is fighting for the post of director from this team.
Didarul Alam said, ''After being elected in 2018, I tried to give my all for BASIS. As the convener, I upgraded the National ICT Award from a small scale to a large scale global standard program. I have won the first championship for Bangladesh in the NASA Space Apps Program. I have tried to involve the representatives of the highest level of the government in various activities of BASIS.
He said, ''I have tried to do my best wherever I have the opportunity to work on BASIS's image and member welfare, including participating in the development of national digital commerce and media buying policies. I believe that if elected, I can forget the differences and play a major role in building a prosperous BASIS.''
Regarding the promise, Didarul Alam said, through discussions with the government, we will work together to ensure the maintenance of tax exemption in the ICT and ITES sector or an acceptable alternative solution. I aim to increase the scope of work of BASIS members. To ensure the growth of the ICT sector, a sustainable and growing ecosystem will be developed through discussions with the government and other stakeholders. I will work to ensure that BASIS members can get financial loans easily, I will try to build skilled manpower. Under 'Go Global' initiative to expand international destinations.
