An accused in a
college student murder case was
hacked to death reportedly by unidentified people at Bagatipara upazila in
Natore district on Thursday night.
The killing occurred around 10pm at Chakmahapur area under Panka union of the upazila.
The victim Mohon Ali, son of Mojammal Haque and a resident of the same area, was an accused in a murder case filed over killing of a college student Zakir Ali on July 11 of 2021.
According to the deceased family members, Mohon secured bail from the case four months earlier and started working as a van driver. Since he granted bail, the relatives of Zakir Ali used to threaten Mohon of his life.
They also said that, Mohon went to Khagrabaria Bazaar in adjacent Bagha upazila on Thursday evening to repair his van. Later, they were informed that Mohon was stabbed by some unidentified people.
He was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the physicians referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. He then succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
"The relatives of the college student (Zakir) might have killed Mohon and we want exemplary punishment of the culprits," said the family members.
Bagatipara Model Police Station's OC Nannu Khan said the body was recovered and sent to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Family members of the victim have filed a case over the killing and police are trying to arrest the accused, added the OC.
