Fire burns 12 food godowns in Tongi

A total of 12 food godowns were burnt in the fire that broke out in Gazipur's Tongi bazar around 11:30pm on Wednesday.

Fire Service units from Tongi and Uttara managed to bring the fire under hteir control around 12:40am on Thursday, said Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence's Senior Station Officer Abu Muhammad Sajedul Kabir Joarder.

Local people said the fire broke out at a godown beside Sonabhan Market in Tongi at about 11:30pm. It later spread soon. There were onions, potatoes, rice and some other food.
When the locals saw the fire, they tried to douse the blaze by their own efforts. Later, called the Fire Service.

Ruposhi Bangla Rice owner Md Farruq said there were 5,000 sacks of rice inside the gowns. All are burnt down.

The reason behind the fire could not be yet.
