6 BCL-backed BUET students lodge complaint of bullying with VC

Six Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) backed students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Wednesday lodged a written complaint with Vice-Chancellor Prof Satya Prasad Majumder alleging the protesting students of harassing them privately and publicly for their pro-Liberation stance.

The students alleged that the protesters even reached their family members with messages of ad consequences for their sons.

After handing over the complaint, the students talked to reporters in front of the Dr M A Rashid Adminstrative Building at 4:40pm on the campus.

The aggrieved students said they have been boycotted socially and academically earlier, and now they are under the threat of being attacked at any time.

The students claimed they are getting threat from the protesters online and offline.

Ashiqul Alam, Sagor Bishwas Joy, Argha Das, Tanvir Ahmed Swapnil, Aritra Ghosh and Mishu Dutta Chad filed the complaint.

It is learnt that they are post aspirants for the next BUET committee.

As there had been no BCL committee in the BUET since the ban on student politics, they have been contacting the BCL central President Saddam Hussain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.

Hasin Azfar Pantha, Information and Technology Affairs Secretary of the BCL central committee and also a former BUET student, invited the press conference.

Ashiq explained that the protesters earlier demonstrated solely against the BCL politics, now shifted their movement against all kinds of political activities regardless of political identities.

The overnight change of the stance is surprising, said Ashiq.

They said the BUET protesters always remained silent against the politics of other organisations including the activities of fundamentalists, but raised their voices only against BCL.

Their selective protest creates suspense among us, Ashiq said.

About the complaint, they said they requested the university administration to ensure their security.

They added they will always welcome progressive student politics on the campus.

As there was no politics of light on the campus, the dark politics filled up the vacuum over the few years after banning of student politics in 2019, Ashiq added.

Despite several attempts, this correspondent could not reach BUET VC Prof Satya Prasad Majumder for his comments in this regard.
