Emphasis should be given on the opinions of the students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), said Leader of the Opposition in parliament and Jatiya Party chairman Golam Mohammad Quader on Wednesday (April 3).
In a statement sent to the mass media on Wednesday afternoon, he said the main objective of the ruling party's student organisation's demand of introduction of politics on BUET campus is an attempt to establish its sole authority. They want to establish absolute control on the BUET administration, its faculties, general students and business entities concerned abolishing the all other politics. In fact, they want to achieve their individual and collective objectives through it.
"Instead of considering such activities as student politics, it may be said that it is an attempt to be benefited through de-politicisation and various other ways. It will badly affect the environment of learning at BUET. Not only the students of BUET, but also the entire nation might be affected if student politics is introduced to the BUET again," he said.
According to GM Quader, the opinions of BUET students should be given priority. They will decide their own political future. "As a former student of BUET, I think that it will not be right to put any decision against the will of the students," he said.
