Bangladesh are going to face another massive defeat as they are 243 runs adrift on day five of the second clash of the two-match Test series against visiting Sri Lanka with three wickets in hand. The hosts managed to post 268 runs in their second innings for seven wickets while chasing 511 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.

Both Bangladeshi openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan showed promise at the start of the innings but were dismissed after scoring 24 and 19 runs respectively. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto followed them with 20 runs, while Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, and Liton Das looked solid with the bat but their contributions were too short to register a record victory.

Mominul departed after scoring his 17th Test fifty, making 50 off 56 balls. Shakib and Liton threw away their wickets scoring 36 and 38 runs correspondingly, while young man Shahadat Hossain Dipu once again failed to contribute with the bat and was dismissed cheaply for 15, putting the team in further danger.

Mehidy Miraz coming in at eight and Taijul Islam at nine, showed proper resistance to avoid further damage on the day, remaining unbeaten on 44 and 10 runs respectively.

Part-timers Kamindu Mendis, Lahiru Kumara and Prabath Jayasuriya shared two wickets each for Sri Lanka, while Vishwa Fernando picked the rest.

In the morning, resuming from overnights scores of 102 runs for six, Sri Lanka declared their second innings posting 157 runs on the board for seven wickets. Angelo Mathews added 17 to his previous days 39, while Jayasuriya and Fernando remained unbeaten on eight runs each. Besides, opener Nishan Madushka scored 34 runs.

Hasan Mahmud took four wickets for Bangladesh, while Khaled Ahmed claimed two and Shakib took the rest.

Earlier, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 531 runs in their first innings, propelled by the contributions of Madushka (57), Karunaratne (86), Kusal (93), Chandimal (59), Dhananjaya (70) and Kamindu (not out 92).

Shakib took three wickets for Bangladesh, while Mahmud claimed two wickets as Miraz and Khaled picked up one wicket each.
Bangladesh in reply, were bowled out for 178 runs in their first innings as none of their batters could show resistance against the Lankan bowlers except Zakir, who scored 54 runs.

Asitha Fernando took four wickets for Sri Lanka, with Lahiru, Vishwa and Jayasuriya sharing the remaining wickets equally.
