Jhenidah on Monday sentenced two people to death for killing a farmer at Harinakundu upazila in Jhenidah district on 2016.
Jhenidah District and Sessions Court judge Md Nazimuddoula delivered the verdict against Liton Bisswas and Monirul Islam Mintu, both residents of Adarsha Andulia village under the upazila, on Monday afternoon.
The court also fined them Tk 2,00,000 lakh each and acquitted six other accused as the allegations against them were not proven.
According to the case statement and prosecution, a group of miscreants including the two convicted dragged the victim, Mashiar Rahman, out of his house and assaulted him with lethal weapons.
The victim was rescued and taken to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Motiar Rahman, the victim's younger brother, lodged a murder case with Harinakundu Police Station accusing eight persons on the next day.
After completing investigation, the investigation officer of the case pressed a charge-sheet before the court against them.
Later, the court delivered the verdict after hearing witnesses and examinning evidences.
