Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said on Tuesday that the people will get health protection advice from now on if the air pollution level of Dhaka reaches hazarous level.
"Considering the level of air pollution, information regarding this is being disseminated regularly on the website of the Department of Environment," Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said.
The Department of Environment will provide health protection advice to the people if the air pollution level of Dhaka reaches more than 300 on the air quality index.
The AQI, an index for reporting daily air quality, informs people how clean or polluted the air of a certain city is and what associated health effects might be a concern for them.
The AQI in Bangladesh is based on five pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
However, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change ran the project on Monday (19 February, 2024) on trial basis, from Tuesday they kicked off the project formally.
In the message published under the title of Air Pollution Health Protection Advice, the public is advised to wear masks when they are considered to be at risk. Besides, sick people, children and elderly people will be advised not to go out of the house unnecessarily or other advice will be given considering the level of pollution. The alert will be withdrawn if the air pollution level is less than 300 on the air quality index.
