Protesting students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) burnt the effigy of a teacher, Mahmudur Rahman Joni, who is accused of sexual harassment.
Protesters gathered under the banner of Platform against Oppression to stage demonstration at around 2:30 in the Amar Ekushey sculpture premises.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Sohel Ahmed, an organizer of the platform, said, "How efficiently the Dhaka University and Chittagong University handled the sexual harassment complaint but JU administration is prolonging the trial of a teacher who is accused of moral turpitude. The complaint has been hanging for one and a half years."
Prof Golam Rabbani of the History Department said, "The administration must meet the demands. Administration has to sack the oppressive teacher. If our demands are not met then the syndicate meeting scheduled for February 20 will not be allowed to proceed."
Besides, the teachers also threatened not to participate in the upcoming admission test along with a teacher who is an accused of sexual harassment.
