DHOUBAURA, MYMENSINGH, Feb 17:  The Kangsa River in Dhoubaura Upazila of the district has lost its navigability. It now looks like a desert.

Once boats would move on the river and fishes were available. The river would be used for bringing different goods by boats to Janjail area from Goatala Bazar to Pourakandulia in the upazila. Later on, these goods would be sent to different parts of the country.

Earlier, the river was dredged in an eyewash manner.

The river ranging from Goatala Bazar to Jaria Janjail via Pourakanda Bazar has almost been dead. It remains no water in that river stretch in the dry season.

Local people said, it is urgent to raise barrage in the main river after dredging so that sediment can accumulate yearly.

Local Union Chairman Zakirul Islam Talukdar said, "The river was not dredged timely. I discussed the issue with persons responsible who talked about dredging it. But it was not done."

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nishat Sharmin said, she will raise the matter at next coordination meeting for taking necessary measures.

Deputy Commissioner Didare Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury said, he will see the matter.
