Three fingers of a member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were severed in a an attack by relatives of an accused while snatching him in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila on Tuesday night.
Injured constable Imran Hasan was first taken to Sadar Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Confirming the incident, RAB-1 Uttara company commander Lt Col Mostaq Ahmed said the attackers made the attack to snatch away the accused.
Besides, Imran, two other RAB members--Masum Billah and Rayhan-- were also injured.
According to RAB, police and local sources, a team of elite force, led by RAB-1 Uttara ASP Tariqul Islam, conducted a drive at Nilkher Sonakandi village around 8:30pm to arrest accused named Yunus Ali, 40. When they were returning with Yunus, locals and his relatives attacked on the RAB personnel with lethal weapons.
At one stage, they hit constable Imran's head, severed his three fingers. Two other RAB members were also injured.
After taken first aid from Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, RAB started for Dhaka medical at about 10:30pm with the three injured as per the doctors' advice.
Additional police force have been deployed in the area.
