
DUMURIA, KHULNA, Feb 11: Vegetable prices have gone beyond purchasing capacities of low-income people in Dumuria Upazila of the district.
Egg price has also shot up again. Per haali (four pieces) red egg is selling at Tk 45-55. Consumers complained, bazaars are under the control of syndicate.
A recent visit to markets found per kilogram (kg) green chilli selling at Tk 180-200 against previous Tk 150-160. Local ginger is selling at Tk 400 per kg, and Indian one is selling at Tk 250-280.
Local garlic is selling at Tk 250-270, and Indian one is selling at Tk 280.
Per kg onion is selling at Tk 100, tomato at Tk 280-300, long brinjal at Tk 35-40, round brinjal at Tk 60, papaya at Tk 35-40, bitter gourd at Tk 60-80, long bean at Tk 60, and dry chilli at Tk 600-650.
Per piece bottle gourd is selling at Tk 50-60. Per kg coriander is selling at Tk 170-200, ridge gourd at Tk 50-60, pointed gourd at Tk 40, okra at Tk 50, spiny gourd at Tk 40-50, and arum lube at Tk 60-70. Per piece ash gourd and sweet pumpkin are selling each at Tk 35-40, green banana per haali at Tk 40, lemon per haali at Tk 20.
Beef is selling at Tk 750-800 per kg, mutton at Tk 1,000-1,110, and broiler hen at Tk 180.
Like previous prices, Pakistani hens are selling at Tk 280-300 per piece while local one is selling at Tk 450-480.
On size basis, per kg ruhi is selling at Tk 250-300, mrigel at Tk 220-250, carp at Tk 250-280, pangas at Tk 150-180, tilapia at Tk 120-150, katol at Tk 400-450, butter fish at Tk 450-500, and Hilsa at Tk 1,000-1,600.
At the retail level, bottled soya bean per litre is selling at Tk 179 while two-litre one is selling at Tk 365-370. Loose soya bean per litre is selling at Tk 160-200.
Coarse rice is selling at Tk 55-60 per kg at retail markets, Paijam at Tk 58-65, BR-28 at Tk 65-70, Miniket at Tk 68-70, Nazirshail at Tk 85-90. Indian red lentil is selling at Tk 110-120, and local red lentil at Tk 150.
A retail vegetable trader at Dumuria Bazar Alam Hossain said, vegetable prices are likely to go up further due to damage to vegetables because of cloudy sky.
A consumer at the market Iftekhar Mahmud said, he came to the market to buy vegetables at cheaper prices. "Now I see a different scene. There is no official control on the market. The market management is in the syndicates hand. Prices change in the morning and in the evening basis," he complained.
