The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the admission of 110 students to Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College for the 2021-22 academic years.
However, the apex court imposed a fine of Tk 10 lakh on Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College for admitting 50 additional students and ordered it to pay the fined money to Khulna Gonoshasthaya Hospital and Kidney Foundation.
An Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order after holding hearing on an appeal filed against a High Court order in this regard.
It also upheld an earlier judgment over admission of 110 students to the medical college only for the academic year 2021-22.
The exception has been made for only that year, as the court stated that Gonashasthaya Medical College can only admit a total of 60 students every year.
Since 2010, Gonoshasthaya Medical College has enrolled 110 students in its medical programme every year.
