Cold-disease patients on rise at Dashmina

DASHMINA, PATUAKHALI, Feb 3: Cold-disease patients including children under five years mostly are increasing in Dashmina Upazila of the district.

Dashmina Upazila Hospital Complex reported increased patients inflicted with different cold diseases including pneumonia, diarrhoea, and fever.

A visit to the hospital on January 29 found 65 patients including 10 pneumonia and 15 diarrhoea admitted against its 50 beds. Doctors and nurses are hiccupping to treat.

A guardian from Mollapotti area in Sadar Upazila Tanzila said, "I took my son Rimon to the hospital as he was suffering fever for three days. He is now being treated."

Another Halima from Charhosnabad Village at Ward No. 3 at Banshbaria Union said, "My son Sajid has been suffering diarrhoea for three days. He was taken to the hospital two days back."

Nurunnahar Begum of Adampur Village at Ward No. 8 at Bahrampur Union said, "My 11-month-old son Omar Faruq has been suffering from diarrhoea for six days. I took him to the hospital four days back."

Due to bed shortage, both patients and guardians are suffering in the hospital.

Hospital sources said, so far 262 cold-disease patients received treatment at the hospital from December last to date. Most of them were under five.

Residential Medical Officer of the hospital Dr Golam Sarwar said, since the beginning of the winter season, the number of cold disease patients is increasing; for the last few weeks, the patients pressure has increased mostly due to severe cold wave. He advised taking special care of children and adult.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman confirmed cold-disease patients on the rise in the upazila. He advised taking patients to hospital with pneumonia, fever, vomiting and others without any delay.
