Dismembered body of a youth, who went missing Wednesday morning, was recovered by police from an inaccessible char of the river Padma under Sadar upazila in Kushtia district early Saturday.

The nine dismembered pieces of the body were buried at six separate places of the char. Police recovered those pieces at about 8:30am on Saturday (February 3) from the char of the river Padma at Kantinagar Boaldaha in Hatash Haripur under the Sadar upazila, police said.
As per the plan, police said the pieces of the body were buried at six places in the char of the river near Kantinagar Boaldah area under Hatash union of the upazila.

Five people including a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, were arrested by police in connection with the gruesome killing.

According to police, the arrested BCL leader is the mastermind of the killing.

The deceased is Milon Hossain, 28, son of Mowla Baksh of village Purbo Bahirmadi under Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia district. He used to live with his family at E-Block of Housing Society in the district headquarters.

Apart from studying, Milon used to work outsourcing job. He married 10 months ago. He used to live with his wife at a rented house near the Eidgah in the housing area of Kushtia city.

Palash Kanti Nath, additional super (Crime and Operations) of district police, told newsmen on Saturday morning.

Earlier, a police team conducted search operations on the char of river Padma throughout the night with five people who were arrested as suspects of Milon's killing.

Police said one of the arrested persons phoned victim Milon to come out of the house on Wednesday (January 31) morning.

Later, Milon was called into a six-storeyed house at the housing area by former BCL leader SK Sajib and his accomplices. Knowing that Milon earned money in various unethical ways apart from outsourcing, SK Sajib demanded a large amount of money from him calling him in their house.

When Milon declined to pay the money, he was held captive inside the house in the housing area and subsequently killed him at night through torture, Palash Kanti Nath said. "Then the culprits cut Milon's body into nine pieces and buried those in the char near the river bank."

Police said the murder was committed by Kushtia District's Chhatra League's expelled vice-president and juvenile gang's leader SK Sajib and his accomplices. Sajib's associates Faisal, Lincon, Jonny and Ifty were arrested.

On Thursday morning, victim's wife Mimo Khatun filed a general diary about the missing of her husband with Kushtia Model Police Station. Then police started investigation.

Mimo said, "My husband was killed in a planned way. I want exemplary punishment of those who were involved in the killing of my husband."

During the investigation, police first arrested one of the friends of the victim and later came to know that the district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League's expelled vice president SK Sajeeb led the killing, the police officer said.

Later, on Friday afternoon, four accused including mastermind Sajeeb were arrested and they confessed to their involvement in the killing, he said.

During the primary interrogation, the arrested confessed that they, led by the expelled BCL leader Sajeeb, murdered Milon for money, the police officer said.

Earlier, Sajeeb was expelled from the BCL's district committee for vandalizing Kushtia 250-Bed General Hospital and harassing interns physically. Later he was arrested in a vandalism case.

He walked out of the jail in the case a few days back and he is also an accused in several other cases including extortion.
