A woman and her two daughters were found dead and her husband was rescued in critical condition at their residence at Charaikhola Union of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased were Tahura Begum, 35, wife of Ashikul Molla, and their daughters Aysha Akhter Tania, 8, and Jarin, 5.
The critically injured is Ashikul Molla, son of former Charaikhola union parishad chairman Abdul Rauf Molla. Ashikul, a businessman by profession, live at the house with his wife and two daughters.
Nilphamari Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam said the incident took place at Doryani Puratan Bandar Bazar of Charaikhola union of the upazila at around 9am on Friday.
Police suspected that Ashikul strangulated his wife and two children at their bedroom and attempted to kill himself by slitting his neck with sharp weapon, he added. But the reason behind the incident could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals the police official said hearing the screaming of Ashikul, neighbours found him at the balcony of the house. Later, they found Tahura and her daughters lying on the bed and informed the matter to police.
They promptly rescued Ashikul and took him to Nilphamari General Hospital. He was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police have visited the spot and action will be taken after investigation, the official mentioned.
