No measure of the government is working to bring down the price hike of essentials, said Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader on Thursday (February 1, 2024).
He made the remark while talking to newsmen after offering fateha with the newly-elected 11 MPs of the party at the party's founding chairman late Husayn Mohammad Ershad's grave at Palli Niabash in Rangpur on early Thursday afternoon.
GM Quader said resentment among people is growing as their sufferings are mounting due to the dire state of the economy and skyrocketing prices of essentials.
The JaPa chairman said though political unrest is not visible in the country, it really exists. However, the country's economic situation is very bad. Income of the common people has drastically fallen but the price of essentials has not declined.
"People are in great difficulties now. Resentment is growing among people. We have been saying this from the very first day. The days ahead will not be pleasant for the government if it can't bring the prices of essential within the tolerable limit," he said.
At that time, JaPa secretary general and Opposition chief whip in parliament Mujibul Huq Chunnu, JaPa MPs and other central leaders were present.
Earlier, GM Quader offered fateha at the grave of the party's founder chairman Husayn Mohammad Ershad with all.
