Two people were killed and four others injured as a private car ploughed through a roadside fish market at Gobindaganj upazila in
Gaibandha district on Friday evening.
The
accident took place in Dharmapur Bazaar area under the upazila at around 6.30pm.
The deceased Haren Das, 45, son of Naren Das, and Pratap Das, 30, son of Mahendra Chandra, both were fish trdaers of the market and residents of Dharmapur area.
According to witnesses, a speeding Gaibandha-bound private car from Nakaihaat area ploughed into the market and ran over several people after it's driver lost control over the steering of the vehicle, leaving six people critically injured.
Locals rushed them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex where Haren and Pratap succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. Later, the physicians of the health complex referred three injured persons to Bagura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Gobindaganj Police Station officer-in-charge Shamsul Alam Shah said being informed, police rushed there and seized the private car from the spot.
Process to file a case in this regard is underway, added the OC.
