CHATTOGRAM, Jan 24: A 194-acre DC Flower Park has been developed in Chattogram for the second time to grow 127 species of flowers and host flower shows by recovering land from illegal possession.

It took the district administration more than 10 years to recover the 194- area, to develop the flower park as a tourist spot.

A month-long flower show will begin at the DC Flower Park today.

Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain will inaugurate the flower show as the chief guest.

Senior Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Tofail Islam will be present as special guests.

The organisers expressed the hope that the flower show will attract at least two million visitors.

The first step to develop the DC park as a tourist spot was taken last year by holding a 9-day long Flower Festival.

Queen tulip from cold countries, native marigold, red, blue, yellow dahlia,  chrysanthemum  will be seen in parts of Marine Drive connecting the port from Faujdarhat in Chattogram.

Many people are visiting the flower park in search of peace and relief, away from the busy city life.
Tourists are excited to see the flower park.

Under the district administrations initiative  different varieties of flower trees have been planted.

Flowers of various colours have started to bloom.

Hundreds of people began to flock to the flower park to spend their afternoons.

Last year, about twenty thousand tourists visited the fair every day.

The road in front of the flower park has been redecorated using various colourful paints to give a fresh look.

Children visit the park to know about flowers.

The park has become a spot for recreation.

A walkway has been constructed between the parks two water bodies.

Chattogram District Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said, The park has a  swimming competition, spaces for kite flying, boat race, painting competition, pitha festival, childrens sports, and a boat museum to put on display thousand-year old boats. Millions of seedlings of 127 species of flower  have been planted in the 194-acre park close to the sea. The flower park has been designed in the style of Dubais Miracle Garden.

The month-long flower show will feature  kite flying competition, violin recital and  Chattograms traditional sampan festival.

Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Md Fakhruzzaman estimated the market value of park at at least one thousand crore taka.

A newly built road separates two large flower-shaped lakes.
