Bangladesh Tea Board (BTB) has decided to build Bangabandhu Cha Babhan at BTBs own land at Motijheel, Dhaka, to immortalize the contributions of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to the countrys tea industry, serving as the first Bangalee chairman of the Tea Board.
The decision was taken at the 90th meeting of the board held on Tuesday on digital platform with BTB Chairman Major General Md Ashraful Islam in the chair, BTB said in a press release.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was chairman of the (Pakistan tea) board in 1957. Then most tea gardens were in East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh). After the Independence of Bangladesh, the BTB was formed.
The meeting also decided to upgrade Bangladesh Tea Research Institute, Project Development Unit, Tea Resort and Museum and BTB - managed tea gardens.
BTB Secretary Mohammad Ruhul Amin, conducted the meeting participated by Board Member M Tawfiqul Islam, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Kamrul Amin, Additional Commissioner Sylhet Division Md Jasim Uddin Tea Borad Member (Research and Development) Md Kamrul Islam, Member (Finance and Trade) Mohammad Nurullah Nuri, Commerce Ministry Joint Secretary Nahid Afrose, Chattogram Forest Divisional Conservator Bipul Krisha Das, Bangladesh Tea Association Chairman Kamran T Rahman, Bangladesh Tea Traders Association Chairman Shah Mainuddin Hassan and National Tea Brokers Chairman M Saiful Islam.
