A freedom fighter, retired army man, was killed after being run over by a microbus in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila on Thursday.
The accident happened in Shubhulya area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway early in the morning.
Deceased freedom fighter and retired army member Sultan Uddin Khan, 72, was a resident of Shubhulya village under Fatehpur union of the upazila.
Fatepur UP former chairman Humayun Talukder said freedom fighter Sultan was walking on the Shubhulya service lane of the Dhaka-Tangail highway early in the morning after Fajr prayer. At that time, an unidentified microbus ran over him, leaving him injured.
He was later rescued and taken to Kumudini Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Gorai Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Molla Tutul said the body has been handed over to the family of the deceased after legal process. However, the microbus could not be caught.
Mirzapur upazila nirbahi officer Shakila Binte Matin said that this brave freedom fighter will be buried with state honour at 4:30 pm.
