Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) built at a cost of Tk 40 lakh in South Bakalia Ward on Sunday to prevent dumping of garbage and polythene in canals.

The Mayor said, ''Protection of drains and canals from non-perishable things including polythene is still a big challenge. Polythene dumped into drains is increasing waterlogging in the city and killing the Karnaphuli river. I have done STS here to deal with this situation.''

Among others, CCC Councilor Md Nurul Alam, Shaheen Akhter Rozi, Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik, Supervising Engineer Farhadul Alam and other local leaders were present at the time.
