Three killed, 45 injured in road mishaps

Three people including a policeman and a college student have been killed and at least 45 others injured in separate road accidents in four districts- Satkhira, Bogura, Moulvibazar and Sherpur, in three days.

SATKHIRA: At least 40 people including two Indians were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Satkhira-Khulna highway in Tala Upazila of the district on Friday noon.

The accident took place in Trishmile area under the upazila at around 1:30 pm.

Quoting locals, police said the accident occurred when a Satkhira-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a stone-laden truck in the area on Friday noon. At that time, the both vehicles overturned into a roadside ditch, which left at least 40 people injured.

Being informed, fire service personnel rescued the injured from the scene and took them to Satkhira Medical College Hospital and Sadar Hospital, said Biplob Kumar Debnath, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patkelghata Police Station (PS).

Among the injured, five people were in critical condition and the both vehicles involved in the accident were brought under the police custody, the OC added.

BOGURA: A policeman was killed in a road accident in Shajahanpur Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Latif, 48, hailed from Chariya Shikar area of Ullapara Upazila in Sirajganj District. He was a constable of Bogura District Police.

Shahjahanpur PS OC Shahidul Islam said Abdul Latif was going to a CNG filling station in Banani area riding on his sons motorcycle at night. On the way, his son lost control of his bike and crashed into a roadside tree. Latif fell on the road and suffered serious injury.

Fortunately, the deceaseds son escaped the injury.

Later on, injured Abdul Latif was rescued and taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: A college student was killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Kulaura Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

The accident took place in Amjhup area on the Kulaura-Rabirbazar road of the upazila at around 8:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Redwanul Islam Rafi, 19, son of Haris Mia, a resident of Budhpasha Village under Karmadha Union in the upazila. He was a twelfth grader at Longla Adhunik Degree College.

The injured persons are: Joynal Mia, 40, Salauddin, 30, and Nani De, 50.

Police and local sources said a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was heading towards Rabirbazar from Kulaura at around 8 am. On the way, the auto-rickshaw collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction in Amjhup area, which left Rafi dead on the spot and three people including the driver of the auto-rickshaw seriously injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The injured persons were rescued and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

However, driver of the tractor managed to flee the scene along with his vehicle soon after the accident.

Kulaura PS OC Mohammad Ali Mahmud confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

NALITABARI, SHERPUR: A motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

The accident took place in Nanni Mathkhola area of the upazila at around 8:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 22, son of Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Katakhali area of Nishchintapur Village under Nanni Union in the upazila.

The injured persons are: Akabbar Ali, 22, son of Abdul Halim, and Yunus Ali, 22, son of Shamsul Haque. Both of them are residents of the same area.

Police and local sources said Masud Rana along with his two friends was going to Sherpur-Tinani area from Nanni at night riding by a motorcycle. On the way, a passenger-laden auto-bike hit the motorcycle in Nanni Mathkhola area at around 8:30 pm, which left the three riders of the motorcycle seriously injured.

Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Sherpur Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Masud Rana dead and referred the two other injured to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka as their condition deteriorated further.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

The deceaseds uncle Al Amin, being the plaintiff, lodged a case with Nalitabari PS against the unidentified auto-bike driver.
Nalitabari PS OC Monirul Alam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
