Allegation of sexual harassment has been brought against Atiqur Rahman, Managing Director (MD) of the Bangladesh Services Ltd (BSL), the owner of Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka.
A trainee women officer of the hotel has recently submitted a complaint to the Prime Ministers Office (PMO), Public Administration Ministrys Senior Secretary and Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministrys Senior Secretary demanding investigation and punishment of the MD citing the incident of her sexual harassment in details.
According to the documents available to this correspondent, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministrys Senior Secretary has already initiated a probe against the joint secretary level officer serving in the BSL on deputation.
In the complaint, the victim women trainee officer claimed that the MD recommended the authority to employ her in the hotel after her training. Following the recommendation of the MD InterContinentals General Manager (HR) Nazmul Huda employed her.
Following this, Atiqur often called her on Whatsapp or exchanged messages. At one stage, he started sending her money through mobile banking services and gave her illicit proposals to pass sometimes with him.
But, she refused to accept his proposals and one stage, the hotel authority regretted to employ her. Even, the authority hasn provided her the experience certificate on completion of her training.
She claimed that not only she, some other women officers and workers of the hotel are also being harassed in similar ways.
But, all are mum fearing to lose their jobs. She urged the authorities concern to investigate the matter duly and to punish the culprit.
