Shajahan Khan's son show-caused for 'threatening voters to silence their voices'

Asibur Rahman Khan, elder son of Awami League's presidium member and Madaripur-2 constituency's MP Shahjahan Khan, has been served a show-cause notice for issuing threat that "if anyone speaks out against the Boat, his voice will be silenced."

The Election Inquiry Committee has served the show-cause notice for threatening voters.

He was asked to make an explanation appearing at the office of Chairman of the Madaripur District Election Inquiry Committee and joint district judge (Land Survey Tribunal) Md Shariful Haque at 11:00am on Sunday.

The notice, signed by joint district judge Shariful Haque was sent to Asibur Rahman Khan on Friday.

Asibur Rahman Khan made the statement while seeking votes for Awami League candidate Abdus Sobhan Mia alias Golap when he visited Tekherhat for election campaigning on Monday night.

Earlier, a 2 minute and 53 seconds video of Asibur Rahman Khan went viral. The video showed that threatening the voters he said, "We know how to silence your voices if anyone tries to utter anything going beyond the 'Boat' or even tries to say anything loudly against 'Boat'.

In this regard, assistant returning officer and Sadar upazila eelction official Nanni Khan said the persons has created fear and panic among general voters in Madaripur-3 constituency. Proofs including a CD of video have been sent to the Madaripur District Election Inquiry Committee to take action against the person. The committee will take steps as per the rules.

It may be mentioned that Shahjahan Khan's elder son Asibur Rahman Khan went for election campaign at Tekerhat of Khowajpur under Madaripur Sadar upazila on Monday night. He is a member of central Jubo League. The area falls under Madaripur-3 (Madaripur, Dasar and a portion of Sadar) constituency. Asibur Rahman Khan made the remark while seeking votes for 'Boat' candidate Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap in that constituency.
