Farmer electrocuted in Panchagarh

A farmer died from electrocution at Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh district on Thursday while irrigating his lands.

The incident happened around 4:00 pm at Uttar Balapara area under Sonahar Mollikadaha union.

Deceased Modhuram Roy, 40, son of late Mahendra Nath Roy, was a resident of the Uttar Balapara.

Eyewitnesses said Modhuram came in contact with a live electric wire while connecting an electric irrigation pump to provide water in his pepper field.

He was rescued in critical condition and rushed to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Sarker Iftekharul Mokaddem, officer-in-charge of Debiganj Police Station, said the body was handed over to the deceased's family without an autopsy as there was no complaint from them.

An unnatural death (UD) case was filed in this regard, he added.
