Meghna launch collision leaves one dead

A young man was killed in a collision between two launches due to dense fog in the middle of the Meghna river in Bhola district early Tuesday.

The collision took place between Suravi-8 and Tipu-14 launches at Haimchar in the Meghna river around 12:30 am.
The dead was Sohel, 35, a resident of Bhola's Ilisha area. He was a passenger of Suravi-8 launch.

Chandpur BIWTA deputy director Shahadat Hossain said Suravi-8 was going to Dhaka's Sadarghat with about 250 passengers from Ilisha launch ghat in Bhola. When it reached at Haimchar on the Meghna River, it collided with a passenger launch named Tipu-14 due to dense fog, which was traveling from Dhaka to Bhola. Sohel died on the spot and some passengers were injured.

Ilisha Police Investigation Center in-charge Golam Mustafa confirmed the news.
