Five murdered in four dists

Five people including two women have been murdered in separate incidents in four districts- Munshiganj, Mymensingh, Kurigram and Coxs Bazar, in recent times.
MUNSHIGANJ: An elderly woman was killed in a clash over land dispute in Gazaria Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rokeya Begum, 62, wife of late Ebaidullah Sarker, a resident of Paikhkharpar Village under the upazila.
According to local sources, there had been a longstanding dispute between the sons of Ebaidullah and late Shahidullah over the ownership of a piece of land. To resolve the matter, an arbitration was held in the village and sons of Ebaidullah got the ownership of the disputed land.
However, both groups were locked into a clash on Saturday afternoon while measuring the disputed land.
Rokeya, wife of Ebaidullah was killed on the spot at that time.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar circle) Khairul Hasan confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and legal action would be taken in this regard.
MYMENSINGH: A sexagenarian man was hacked to death by his son-in-law in Tarakanda Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place in Nitarashi Village under Dhakua Union of the upazila at around 3 pm.
Deceased Kasim Uddin, 60, was a resident of the same village.
Local sources said Mahmudul Hasan struck his father-in-law Kasim with a sharp machete at one stage of an altercation over family issues after he went his in-laws house to bring back his wife to his home, which left Kasim critically injured.
He was then rescued by locals and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, the law enforcers have arrested Mahmudul with the help of local people, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarakanda Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun.
Legal steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
FULBARI, KURIGRAM: Two people including a woman were murdered in separate clashes in Fulbari Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The incidents took place in Madhya Kashipur area under Kashipur Union and Char Methli Village under Borobhita Union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 41, son of Syed Ali, a resident of Madhya Kashipur Village under Kashipur Union; and Samasta Bhan, 59, wife of Soljar, a resident of Char Methli Village under Borobhita Union in the upazila.  
Local sources said Rafiqul rented his shop to one Sultan in the area. At around 9 am on Saturday, he went to collect the rental money from Sultan. At that time, an altercation took place in between them. Following this, Sultan along with his associates Alamgir, Jahangir, Sobhan, Shahadat and Shahajahan attacked on Rafiqul with local weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
On the other hand, Samasta Bhan was killed in Char Methli Village under Borobhita Union at around 11:30 am.
 Locals said one Hasan, son of Ajer Uddin of the area, was locked into a fight with Saddam, son of Soljar, over running a trolley inside the maize field of Saddam. Samasta Bhan tried to stop the fight, but was critically injured after being beaten by Hasan at that time.
Later on, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to neighbouring Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital at around 1:30 pm.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Fulbari PS OC Prankrishna Debnath confirmed the incidents, adding that both the bodies were sent to Kurigram Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies and filing of two separate cases are underway in this regard.
UKHIYA, COXS BAZAR: A Rohingya man was shot to death by miscreants in Ukhiya Upazila of the district recently.
Deceased Imam Hossain, 30, was the son of Manir Ullah, a resident of Rohingya Camp No. 4 in the upazila.
Ukhiya PS OC Shamim Hossain said a group of miscreants came to the camp and opened fire on Imam, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Coxs Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
He might have been killed following enmity over establishing supremacy in the camp, the OC added.
