A CNG-run auto-rickshaw were burnt after miscreants hurled home-made bombs targeting the vehicle in old Dhaka's Kazi Alauddin Road on Sunday morning when opposition BNP is observing a 48-hour hartal across the country.

The incident took place around 8:30am.

Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters duty officer Shahjahan Sikder said miscreants threw one or more cocktails on the auto-rickshaw in front of One Star Hotel and Restaurant.

The fire men soon extinguished the blaze, he added.

The 48-hour countrywide hartal called by the BNP and its allies began at 6am to protest the Election Commission's announcement of the polls schedule.
