Tourist boat set ablaze in Rangamati

Miscreants set fire on a boat carrying six tourists on Kaptai Lake in Rangamati on Friday morning.

Boatman Md Gias Uddin said he along with six tourists was heading towards Shuvolong Waterfalls boarding on the boat. When it reached in Kander Mukh area, a group of five armed people intercepted the boat around 10:00am and snatched mobile phones. Later, they forced the tourists and the boatman to get off the boat and set it on fire using petrol.
"The miscreants also said that no tourist boat should go to Shuvolong until their demanded money is paid," said the boatman.

However, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Ariful Amin said they have launched an investigation to find out the actual reason behind the incident and legal actions would be taken in this regard.
