Thousands flock to watch boat race on Karatoa

A day-long traditional boat race was held in the Karatoa river in Bogura town on Monday.

Bogura District Police organized the festival in collaboration with Bangladesh Graam Theatre and Bogura Combined Cultural Alliance.

Thousands of people including women and children from different places gathered on the bank of the river to enjoy the boat race. Fairs were held at different places on both banks of the river around the boat race.

A total of eight boats participated in the race. About 40 to 50 sailors were seen on each boat.

According to the organizers, the context of the competition was different for this time. This race has been organized to free the river from encroachment and pollution.

Bogura-6 seat MP Ragebul Ahsan Ripu was present as the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the prizes.

At that time, Bogura deputy commissioner Saiful Islam, district civil surgeon Mohammad Shafiul Azam were present as special guests presided over by Bogura police super Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty.

Earlier, police super Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty inaugurated the competition at around 12 pm.
