Ferry services on the busy Paturia-Daulatdia route are being severely disrupted owing to strong current in the Padma river. As a result, ferries are taking almost double time to cross the river. However, the water of the Padma river is still below the danger level.

This information was known through Daulatdia Ghat BIWTC and water measurement (gauge reader) on Monday morning.

In the last 24 hours, the water level of the river at Daulatdia point has increased by 5 cm which is below the danger level. Besides, the water of the river is also below the danger level at Pangsha Sengram and Rajbari sadar's Mahendrapur points.

However, due to the current, the ferries take longer to cross the river, but there is no traffic jam at Daulatdia. Vehicles coming from various districts of the south western region are directly boarding on ferries.

BIWTC Daulatdia Ghat manager Salahuddin said 'The water and current in the river are increasing. As a result, the ferry crossing are taking a little longer. However, there is no traffic jam at Daulatdia. At present, vehicles are being crossed by 12 small and big ferries out of 18 ferries as the traffic pressure is low. Four ferry ghats are operational in Daulatiya.'
