Heatwave may cross 40°C in one to two days: BMD

The ongoing heatwave may rise and crossed 40 degrees Celsius in one or two days at some places, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Mild to moderate a heatwave is sweeping over 56 districts and will continue for few more days. No rain forecast in the next four to five days, the Met Office said on Thursday.

Even the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, it said, adding that day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, the Met Office forecast from Thursday 9am to next 24 hours.
According to BMD, a mild heatwave is when the temperature is between 36 to 37.9 degree Celsius, moderate is between 38 and 39.9 degree Celsius and a severe heatwave happens when the temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius.
