Two-day ‘Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Drama Festival’ begins in Ctg

A two-day-long ‘Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Drama Festival’ arranged by Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela (BSK Mela), Chattogram city unit has begun in the city on the occasion of the National Children’s Day and the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People.

Grandchild of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman barrister Toufiqur Rahman inaugurated the festival on Monday afternoon.

Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela president Mohammed Sazzad Hossain presided over the programme where Chattogram city Awami League general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin was present as the chief guest.

Former media adviser to Prime Minister, editor of the Daily Observer and chief adviser of BSK Mela Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, BSK Mela adviser Lion Alhaj Mohammad Imran; BGMEA vice president Syed Nazrul Islam, actress Rokeya Prachi and Zilla Shilpakala Academy joint secretary Hasan Jahangir were present as the special guests.

Dilruba Khanam moderated the programme and Jauid Chowdhury gave the welcome speech.


Barrister Toufiqur Rahman in his speech said, “A group wants to hide the self-identity of the Bengali nation under the cover of various social barriers. Cultural practices must be increased to thwart this effort.”


BSK Mela chief adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh became independent under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. His daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to build Smart Bangladesh. The youth have to work to realize this goal.”

Ananya Theatre, Bawa School and Chittagong Collegiate School performed staged dramas on the first day of the  festival.

Child artistes of ‘Chattal Kuri’ and ‘Kantha Neer’ performed in cultural programme at Mukta Mancha.
