JaPa's Hafiz Uddin elected from Thakurgaon-3 seat

Jatiya Party candidate Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has unofficially been elected in the by-election to Thakurgaon-3 constituency (Pirganj-Ranishankoil).

He bagged 84,047 votes, while his nearest rival Independent candidate Gopal Chandra Roy received 50,309 votes.

District Election official Md Manzurul Hasan announced the result on Wednesday evening after counting of ballots.

Awami League led 14-Party Alliance candidate Md Yasin Ali of Bangladesh Workers Party got 11,356 votes.

Other candidates in the constituency were Md Emdadul Huq of Zaker Party, Md Shafi Al Asad of Natyional People's Party, and Md Sirajul Islam of Bangladesh Nationalist Front.

The total number of voters in the constituency were 3,24,439.

The seat along with five other seats fell vacant following the resignation of BNP MPs. The by-elections to the constituencies were held on Wednesday.
