B'baria-2 seat: Sattar Bhuiyan elected MP again

Independent candidate Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, who was expelled from BNP, has unofficially been elected in the by-election to Brahmanbaria-2 constituency.

He was elected receiving 46,323 votes in the by-election held on Wednesday (February 1). His nearest rival Abdul Hamid Khan (Plough) of Jatiya Party got 9,500 votes. Though he was elected lawmaker as many as five times earlier with the election symbol 'Sheaf of Paddy, this time the elderly politician has been elected MP with 'Cluster of Bananas'.

A total of four candidates contested in the by-elections. Apart from Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, other candidates were Abdul Hamid Bhasani (Plough) from Jatiya Party, Zahirul Huque Jewel (Rose) from Zaker Party and another leader expelled by BNP Abu Asif Ahmed (Motorcar).

There are a total of 3,73,319 voters in the constituency comprising 17 unions under two upazilas. Of them, 1,97,503 are male voters and 1,75,815 female voters. Besides, there is a transgender voter.

A total of 17 executive magistrates worked in 17 unions, while two other judicial magistrates performed duties in the by-election.

Apart from 1,100 policemen, four platoons of BGB personnel were deployed in the by-election to maintain law and order. Besides, there were 9 RAB teams, 9 mobile teams of police and four striking teams.
