Recognition of rural women contribution to agri-sector demanded

RANGPUR, Oct 17: Contribution of rural women to enhancing agricultural output to ensure food security should be properly recognised for establishing their equal rights, dignity, honour and social leadership.
The opinion came on Saturday at a post-rally discussion organised by 'Pollishree' under its RECALL Project at its Dimla Upazila Office in Nilphamari to focus contribution of rural women in agriculture in observance of the International Rural Women Day-2016.
Dimla Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rezaul Karim attended the discussion as chief guest with Coordinator of the RECALL Project of 'Pollishree' Puran Chandra Barman in the chair.
In his welcome speech, Puran Chandra Barman said that rural female workers and farm-labourers had been contributing maximum to increasing output of food, poultry, animal husbandry, and handloom products to ensure food security cutting poverty.
Headmaster of Dimla RBR Government High School Hanif Sarker suggested more budgetary allocations in all sectors for the rural distressed women, female workers and farm-labourers to accelerate their development.
Leader of the Community Based Organisation of 'Pollishree' Farida Begum asked for enacting time-befitting labour laws to protect equal rights of female farm-labourers and fixing reasonable wages and per-day working hour for establishing their equal rights.
Principal of Dimla Mohila College Mokhlesur Rahman called for implementing agriculture reforms to establish rights of farm-labourers including female farm-labourers, who were largely involved in farm activities and food production.
Highly lauding contribution of rural women and farm-labourers in enhancing food production, the chief guest suggested for forming marketing cooperative systems to ensure fair price of their farm- products.
