A human-chain was formed at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district demanding construction of an embankment to prevent river erosion.

Locals arranged the human chain at Char Palashtali village under Sreenagar union of the upazila.

Speaking at the human chain, locals said more than 4,000 people live in this village. There are various institutions like madrasa, primary school, mosque, cemetery. Hundreds of homesteads, crop lands and plants have been devoured in the Meghna river in the last decades. The affected families were demanding the construction of embankments to prevent the erosion.

Palashtali Government Primary School managing committee president Abdul Basheed said that the families affected by the river erosion in the last two days have lost everything and are living a dehumanized life. The rest of the village may be devoured in the river if immediate action is not taken.

He further said the people of the village want the implementation of embankment construction. Despite so much writing in various media for the construction of it, the government has not taken any proper steps.
