Meherpur poura, Amdah UP polls Oct 31

MEHERPUR, Oct 7: Elections for Meherpur municipality and Amdah Union Parishad (UP) under Sadar upazila in the district will be held on October 31.
The candidates of both areas have completed submission of their respective nomination papers to the Returning Officer on Thursday.
Due to some legal issues,  elections of these two local bodies could not be held last year.
Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, convener of District Juba League as the candidate of Awami League with boat symbol submitted nomination papers while Jahangir while Jahangir Biswas belonging to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with sheaf of paddy and sitting Mayor Motasimbillah Motu as the independent candidate submitted their nomination papers.
Besides, 40 candidates for the nine general councillor posts while ten woman candidates for three reserved councillor posts submitted their nomination papers.
On the other hand, Abu Bakar, a chairman candidate of Amdah Union Parishad submitted nomination paper as the candidate of Awami League with boat symbol while present chairman also a leader of Awami League Anarul Islam submitted his paper as an independent candidate and Abdullah Al Mamun, Kazi Ruhul Amin also submitted nomination papers as independent candidates.
For the posts of 9 members, some 22 candidates submitted papers while for 3 reserved posts 13 women submitted papers for the UP election.
District Election Officer and Returning Officer for Meherpur Pourosova and Amdah UP polls said, there are some 31,241 voters of pourosova while 21,456 voters for Amdah UP.
