Lakshmipur Hindus vibrant with Durga Puja excitement

LAKSHIPUR, Sept 30:  Hindu community people in the district are humming with excitement as sculptors give last minute touches to statues of Durga in preparation for the five-day Sharodiya Utsab.
Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, will begin on October 7 and conclude on October 11 through the immersion of idols in rivers.
Visiting some temples in the district on Friday, a cornucopia of colours, sounds and religious fervour was experienced as most temples were abuzz with the last minute decoration.
Some artisans said that from everyday morning to midnight, they pour all their energy and devotion to finish making the idols as the countdown to the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community begins.
They started to make the idols two months back. "Everything is done and now we are just giving the last touch of our brush to the idol", they added.
According to Lakshmipur District Puja Udjapan Parishad, Durga Puja will be celebrated in 75 puja mandaps in the district from October 7 to 11.
Of the total, some 31 in Sadar upazila, 10 in Raypur upazila, 20 in Ramganj upazila, 11 in Ramgati upazila and three in Kamalnagar upazila.
President of District Puja Udjapan Parishad Advocate Shoibal Kanti Saha said they have almost all kind of preparations for the Durga Puja celebration Irrespective of religions, people of all ages will enjoy the occasion in harmony here in the district, he added. The law enforcing agencies would help us all the ways for smooth holding of the festival as they assured during a recent meeting, he added.
Lakshmipur Superintendent of Police (SP) ASM Mahatab Uddin said all necessary steps have been taken to ensure security and safety at each and every mandaps of the district. Police will try its level best so that people can enjoy the religious festival of Hindu community amid peaceful situation.
"Stern action will be taken against the culprits if evil forces try to occur any untoward incidents during the puja celebration", the SP firmly added.
Talking to the Daily Observer, Deputy Commissioner of the district Md Zullur Rahman Chowdhury said the government had allocated 37 tonnes of rice for the 75 puja mandaps in assisting the Hindu Community to celebrate the upcoming Durga Puja with festive mood.
