The movement to topple the ruling government is gaining momentum, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
Their struggle is being accelerated by the spontaneous participation of the people, he added.
Fakhrul made the remarks at a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday organized by BNP, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the 11th Parliamentary Elections.
Mentioning that bureaucracy is being given priorities above the politics, Mirza Fakhrul said a bureaucratic system has been introduced in the country by completely removing politics.
No one has any value including, political leaders, Awami League leader, said Fakhrul.
Alleging that the government came to power using the state machinery in the 11th Parliamentary Elections, Mirza
Fakhrul said, “The electoral system has been deliberately destroyed on December 30, 2018. Earlier, the votes were robbed and snatched. But for the first time in 2018, votes were stolen the night before the elections using the state machinery. “
The BNP secretary general said, “HT Imam, former political adviser to the prime minister, was given the responsibility of holding the 2018 elections. He was a bureaucrat. He conducted the election taking help of all the bureaucrats. Police had played their role at the ground level. The entire system had arranged this election.â€
“Bangladesh was not suddenly brought to this position politically. The process of depoliticize has begun long time ago.â€
Mentioning that party chief Khaleda Zia’s release is th efinal point, the BNP secretary general said, “We want Khaleda Zia’s release. This is our first priority. She is the only leader of Bangladesh who has fought for nine years to establish democracy.â€
“She (Khaleda) did not become the Prime Minister by force; she gained it taking the mandate of the people.â€
