COMILLA, Sept 19: The brisk preparation of Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu Community, is going on in full swing in the district.
According to sources, this year about 2.5 lakh Hindu community people will celebrate the festival in 700 mandaps (decorated idol stages) in the district.
The upazila-wise breakup of the mandaps: Comilla Sadar upazila 65, Sadar Dakkhin 46, Laksam 31, Monohorganj 12, Barura 74, Nangolkot eight, Chowddagram 21, Burichong 40, Brahmanpara 13, Dabidwar 77, Muradnagar 150, Homna 33, Meghna three, Titas 12, Daudkandi 48, and Chandina 67.
The famous puja mandaps will be set up at Raj Rajeshwari Kalibari, Iswarpathshala, Jaggannathpur, Rajgonj, Bagichagaon, Ranir bazaar and Chak bazaar in Comilla City Corporation area.
In this connection, making of Durga protima (idol of goddess Durga) is going on in full swing in all Puja mandaps in 16 upazilas of the district, sources said.
The district administration has taken necessary steps to hold the festival peacefully.
A meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room recently, DC Md. Hasanuzzman Kollol presided over the meeting.
Among others, Police Super Shah Abid Hasan ADC (general) Moniruzzman, ADC (rev) Asaduzzaman, all UNOs, General Secretary of Raj Rajeshwary Kali Bari advocate Kironmoy Dutta Jhunu, President of Hindu-Buddist-Christan Kallayan Front Sanjeet Roy Chowdhury, Secretary of Hindu-Buddist-Christan Association Chandan Kumar were also present there.
