
Former NSI director general Brig (retd) Abdur Rahim, a death row convict in the 10-truck arms haul case in Chattogram, died of Covid-19 at a hospital in the capital on Sunday morning.
Abdur Rahim died around 8:14am at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital.
Inspector General of Prisons (IG-Prisons) Brigadier General Md Mominur Rahman Mamun confirmed media about the matter.
Brig Abdur Rahim was taken to the corona unit of the hospital from Kashimpur Central Hospital- 2 few days ago after being infected with Coronavirus. Later, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following deterioration of his condition where he died.
On April 1, 2004, a consignment of 10 trucks of arms and ammunition were seized from the CUFL jetty.
Two cases were filed over the incident with Karnafuli police under the Arms Act and the Special Powers Act of 1974.
On January 30, 2014, the court sentenced 14 people to death, including former industries minister and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar and former Director of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Brig Abdur Rahim.
