The City Bank Limited authorities on Tuesday (August 10) filed a general diary with Gulshan Police Station regarding a news published in several newspapers allegedly over giving a luxury car worth Tk 3.5 crore to actor Pori Moni by the bank's managing director and CEO Mashrur Arefin.

Gazi M Shawkat Hasan, Head of Court Operations, filed the GD, mentioning that a vested quarter was trying to extort the City Bank Limited by spreading such false and fabricated news.

Gulshan Police Station officer-in-charge Abul Hasan confirmed about filing the GD.

The GD states that the City Bank has been doing business for a long time with great reputation. A false and fabricated news has been published and uploaded in several news outlets and other social media recently involving controversial activities of an actress and a senior official of the City Bank Limited. "Capitalising the news, we think that some vested quarters, cheats and extortionists of the society have got involved in harassing the bank officials in various ways, or may be involved," he said.

It was also stated in the GD that such unidentified people and a vested quarter become involved in tarnishing the image of the bank using the mass media and social media intentionally. They may try to realise money from the bank in illegal ways.

Besides, the senior officials of the bank are now going through social insecurity and mental anxiety due to such news reports.

Earlier on Monday (August 9), the City Bank Limited MD and CEO Mashrur Arefin uploaded a post on his Facebook page. He said: "I have never seen anyone named Pori Moni in my entire life. So, question doesn't arise at all keeping her phone number by me. Even, I have not heard the name of Pori Moni before the 'Boat Club' incident. I had to ask people who that Pori Moni was."
