Bashundhara Kings which had been leading the point table of the Women's Football League 2020-21 from the beginning registered an 18-0 win over Jamalpur Kacharipara XI on Saturday to secure the title of the league with one match yet to play.
The champion women were in need of only one point from the match to confirm the title. Although match result was not unexpected considering the team's previous performances, the booters, coaches and officials of the club were eagerly waiting to see what happen at Shaheed Birshreshtha Sepoy Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on the day. The wait was over with the booters securing full three points from the match.
Striker Krishna Rani, Sabina Khatun and Shamsunnahar (the junior one) made hat-trick in the match where Krishna scored five goals, Shamsunnahar four and Sabina three goals. Sanjida Akhter made a brace while Monika Chakma, Anai Mogini, Summya Matsushima and Kamrunnahar rocked the post once each.
While celebrating the victory, Bashundhara's ace striker Krishna Rani said, "It was a challenge for us to keep the title and finally we succeeded. We are happy to be able to do so."
In the other matches on the day, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan CSC thrashed Sadyapushkorini Juba Sporting Club by 9-0 and Cumilla United Club defeated Nasrin Sports Academy by 2-1 margin.
The Kings women had 39 points from 13 matches after winning the Saturday-match. On the other hand, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College Sporting Club is now at the second place with 33 points and FC Brahmanbaria at the third place with 24 points playing same amount of matches.
