Noted lyricist Fazal-e-Khuda dies of COVID-19

Noted lyricist Fazal-e-Khuda, known for his famous patriotic song 'Salam Salam Hajar Salam', died from deadly coronavirus at a hospital in Dhaka early hours of Sunday. He was 81.

He was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital on July 1 after his physical condition was deteriorated and he breathed his last at about 4:00am, his son Sajib Onasis said.

Poet Fazal-e-Khuda had long been suffering from diabetes and kidney ailments.

Fazal-e-Khuda's another son Wasif-e-Khuda, his wife and Wasif's wife have been infected with the virus. Wasif's mother is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Fazal-e-Khuda wrote many popular songs. Those include "Je Deshete Shapla Shaluk Jhiler Joley Bhanshe," "Bhalobashar Mulya Koto, Ami Kichu Janina," "Kolshi Kandhe Ghate Jai Kon Ruposhi," "Bashonti Rong Saree Pore Kon Ramani Choley Jai," "Ami Prodeeper Moto Raat Jege Jege," "Bhabna Amaar Ahoto Pakhir Moto," "Premer Ek Naam Jibon," etc.

 His famous song, 'Salam Salam Hajar Salam' made it to the 20 best Bangla songs of all-time in a 2006 survey by BBC.

Fazal-e-Khuda was enlisted to Bangladesh Betar in 1963 and television in 1964. He penned many patriotic, modern, folk, and Islamic songs.

He was born at village Bongram under Bera police station in Pabna district on March 9, 1941.
