Monirul Islam appointed as head of SB

The government has appointed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)'s additional commissioner and head of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Md Monirul Islam as the head of the Special Branch (SB) of police.

It was stated in a notification signed by Dhananjay Kumar Das, deputy secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday (March 14) morning.

SB chief Mir Shahidul Islam went on retirement on Sunday. Additional Inspector General of Police Mir Shahidul Islam was replaced by Monirul islam.

Monirul Islam belongs to the 15th BCS (Police Cadre). He joined the DMP as deputy commissioner (CID-South) in 2009. Then he was elevated to the posts of joint commissioner and additional commissioner at the DMP. His role in supressing the militancy was lauded.

Monirul Islam received Bangladesh Police Padak and President Police Padak in recognition to his work.
