
The National Mourning Day and 41st martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the districts of the country with due respect and solemnity and with a call to transform the grief into strength to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
Marking the day, the district administrations, Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations, socio-political organisations, educational institutions, and government departments chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Day in a befitting manner.
The programmes included hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in all government, private buildings and educational institutions, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, wearing of black badges, and bringing out mourning processions.
COMILLA: On the occasion, Comilla City Awami League (AL) organised a discussion at district AL office. President of City AL Advocate Rustom Ali presided over the programme.
It was addressed, among others, by Joint Convener of City AL Shafiqul Islam Sikder, former President of Comilla District Bar Association Advocate Zahirul Islam Selim, President of district Football Association Arfanul Haque Rifat and Juba League leader Abdullah Al-Mahmud Shahid.
The day's programmes also included placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, hoisting of black flags, Quran Khwani and milad mahfil and destitute feeding.
FARIDPUR: A mourning rally participated by students, government officials and a cross section of people was brought out from the premises of deputy commissioner (DC) office in the morning. The rally paraded the main thoroughfares and ended at local Ambica Maidan.
DC Sardar Sharafat Ali, Police Super Md. Jamil Hassan, Awami League leaders Advocate Chandra Saha, Syed Masud Hossain and activists' of AL's front organisations paid homage to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his portrait.
Many government, semi-government and social organisations also paid their homage.
Faridpur local unit of Juba League organised a blood donation camp at the Ambica Memorial, marking the day. Special prayers were offered at all religious institutions of the district town seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs.
In the evening a discussion meeting on Bangabandhu was held at local Kabi Jasimuddin hall where LGRD & Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain was present as chief guest.
KISHOREGANJ: To mark the day, a rally was brought out from Kishoreganj Old Stadium in the morning and ended at District Cultural Academy.
After this, a meeting was held at the same venue. DC Md. Azimuddin Biswas presided over the meeting, and Dilara Begum Asma, MP, was present as chief guest.
Among others, President of district Awami League Advocate Karmul Ahsan Shahjahan, its General Secretary Advocate M A Afzal, Administrator of Zila Parishad Advocate Md. Zillur Rahman, Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain Khan, Mayor of Kishoreganj Municipality Md. Parvez Miah, Public Prosecutor Shah Azizul Hoque, President of Ganatantry Party, Kishoreganj unit, Advocate Bhupendra Chandra Bhowmick Dolon, Commander of district Muktijoddha Sangsad Md. Asad Ullah, President of Kishoreganj Press Club Kazi Shaheen Khan, Principal of Government Gurudayal College Ram Charan Roy, Civil Surgeon Dr. M A Goni, Joint Secretary of district Awami League Advocate Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu, its Joint Secretary Aminul Islam Bakul, its Publicity Secretary Sakauddin Ahmed Rajon and journalist Monowar Hossain Rony, also spoke on the occasion.
District Awami League held a discussion meeting at its office. Later, different cultural organisations distributed food among the destitute. Special prayers were also offered at all religious institutions.
MAGURA: Marking the day, a rally organised by district administration was brought out from the collectorate premises and ended on the pavement of victory memorial plaque at Nomani Maidan of the town.
Lawmaker of Magura-1 constituency Major General (Retired) Abdul Wahab along with DC Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, SP AKM Ehsanullah, Commander of Magura district unit Muktijoddha Sangsad Molla Nabuat Ali, and Secretary of district unit Awami League Pankaj Kundu placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Later, a discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu was held at Asaduzzaman Auditorium in the town.
Besides, a painting competition for children was also held at the auditorium of Syed Ator Ali Public Library.
MEHERPUR: The day's programmes started with hoisting national flag at half-mast in the morning upon all government, semi-government and private buildings.
A mourning procession led by Professor Forhad Hossain, MP, and DC Porimol Singha was brought out in the town from Shaheed Dr. Shamsuzzoha Park and ended on the DC office premises.
After the procession, floral wreaths were placed at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the DC office premises.
A discussion on the life of Bangabandhu was held at the same venue with DC Porimal Singha in the chair and Forhad Hossain, MP, as chief guest.
Among others, Acting Superintendent of Police Ahmaruzzaman, former MP Joynal Abedin, and Administrator of Zila Parishad Advocate Miazan Ali attended and spoke in the discussion as special guests.
District Information Office screened documentary films 'Chironjib Bangabandhu', 'Swadhinota Amar Swadhinota' and 'Bangabandhu: Bangladesh' on Government Boys School premises.
Similar discussion meetings on the life and deeds of Bangabandhu were also held at upazila headquarters.
Special doa mahfil and prayers were offered at all religious institutions. Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, hamd and na'at, and poem recitation were also held.
Later, the chief guest distributed prizes among the winners of different competitions.
RAJBARI: To mark the day, a mourning procession led by Member of Parliament from Rajbari-1 constituency and district AL Secretary Kazi Keramot Ali was brought out in the morning.
Later, a discussion meeting was held on deputy commissioner's office premises with DC Zinat Ara in the chair.
It was addressed, among others, by MP Kazi Keramot Ali, MP of women's reserve seat Kamrun Nahar Lovely, Police Super Zihadul Kabir, Administrator of Zila Parishad Akbor Ali Morzi, Mayor of Rajbari Municipality Mohammad Ali Chowdhury and Vice-President of district AL Fakir Abdul Jabber.
RANGPUR: In the morning, wreaths were placed at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at DC crossing point followed by observance of one-minute silence, wearing black badges and offering special munajat there.
Later, a huge mourning procession was brought out in the city streets from Zila School to Rangpur Town Hall premises via Jahaz Company Mour.
The divisional commissioner, city mayor, deputy inspector general for Rangpur Range, deputy commissioner, and police super led the mourning procession participated by thousands of people from all walks of life.
Milad mahfils are being organised, special munajat and prayers being offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other religious
institutions seeking divine blessing for the departed soul of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of August 15 in 1975.
The District Information Office has screened documentary films on 'Chiranjib Bangabandhu', 'Osomapta Mohakabbyo' and 'Sonali Dingulu' at different cinema halls, Central Shaheed Minar, and many other open places in the city.
The Islamic Foundation has organised programmes like recitation from the Holy Qur'an, Hamd, Na'at and Doa mahfil and special discussion on the life and deeds of Bangabandhu at its auditorium in the city.
The district and city units of AL and its all associate organisations, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad and other organisations have also observed the Day through various programmes.
AL and its associate organisations hoisted national flag and party flags at half-mast, wore black badges, arranged recitation from the Holy Qur'an and Doa mahfil, distributed foods among the distressed people and organised discussions on Bangabandhu in the city.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy organised competitions on drawing and essay
writing for children focusing on life and deeds of Bangabandhu and national history.
The district administration organised the main discussion meeting on Bangabandhu at Town Hall on Monday noon followed by prize-giving ceremony with Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar in the chair.
DC Kazi Hasan Ahmed addressed the main discussion as chief guest and distributed prizes among winners of different competitions.
DIG for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, Zila Parishad Administrator and Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi and its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed the discussion as special guests.
